Earlier this month, the French government introduced a new digital health portal – Mon Espace Santé. But what is it, how can it be used and who is it available to?

What is Mon Espace Santé?
Mon Espace Santé was launched earlier this month by France’s health minister, Olivier Véran. Essentially, it is a digital version of the carte vitale health card with some additional features.
It is an online space in which you can add documents, prescriptions, test results and other health information to share with medical professionals if required. A calendar with upcoming appointments and check-ups is also included.
This information will mostly be added to your account by medical professionals, but patients can also update it if they wish. Only health professionals and you, the patient, will have access to this information.
The platform was successfully tested in three departments (Haute-Garonne, Loire-Atlantique, and Somme) at the end of 2021.
Who will this be available to?
This platform will be available to everyone who is registered on the French healthcare system. Anyone who has a Shared Medical Record can transfer their data to the Mon Espace Santé.
The patient’s GP and any medical teams associated directly with the patient’s care will have automatic access to this space. Any other healthcare professionals will need the patient’s consent to gain access.
How can you access Mon Espace Santé?
Everyone who has a carte vitale will receive a letter or email in the next month, inviting them to activate their digital medical file. For those who don’t have a carte vitale yet, your Mon Espace Santé will be created automatically when you receive your carte vitale.
For those who don’t wish to have a Mon Espace Santé account, you will have the option to close it within six weeks of receiving your letter by accessing your account and requesting for it to be closed online. Alternatively, you can contact a support line to ask for it to be closed.
So far, you can only access Mon Espace Santé via your internet browser on a computer, phone or tablet. However, an app is in development.
How secure is the platform?
The data on this platform is protected and secured by the government. As always, it is recommended that you use a strong password to access your account and only log in when using private Wi-Fi. Health insurance companies will not be granted access to your data.
