First introduced in 2012, Portugal’s Golden Visa is a popular route to residency for non-EU citizens. It entitles the holder to five years of residency with the opportunity to apply for citizenship later on, as well as free movement throughout the Schengen Zone.
To obtain the visa, an investment must be made in Portugal. This is usually through property but other investment options include investing in a venture capital fund or in a company that creates new jobs.
In this article, we will be focusing on the property route, sharing five gorgeous properties for sale in Portugal that would entitle you to a Golden Visa.
In general, to qualify for the Golden Visa, you must purchase a property worth a minimum of €500,000; however, for older properties, this threshold is lower, at €350,000.
It is important to note that, as of this year, a number of changes have been introduced to the Golden Visa scheme. While the amount you must invest in property remains the same (either €500,000 or €350,000), the areas that you can purchase a property and qualify for the Golden Visa have changed. As such, Lisbon, Porto, certain areas of the Algarve and other coastal areas (including the Silver Coast and Setúbal) no longer qualify for the Golden Visa.
All of the properties below are located in areas that still qualify for the Golden Visa.
