The sun’s shining here in Portugal, with temperatures of 25ºC all week, and we’ve got good news as Parliament passes a law on rights after Brexit. Brexit’s not the only thing on the agenda, as we’re named the top destination for many European buyers, and new developments open on the Algarve (and a swish 5-star hotel’s selling our portal).

Portuguese Brexit law passed in Parliament
The Portuguese parliament has passed the so-called ‘Brexit Law, Law 17-1/2019, which guarantees expats’ rights in Portugal after the UK leaves the EU, as long as Britain reciprocates. This will mean, among other things, continued access to healthcare, a ‘breathing space’ until late 2020 to exchange a driving licence and continued residency rights.
Talks are still underway in the UK Parliament, so we don’t know what the final deal (if there is one) will be. However, we have been talking to legal experts based here in Portugal, and they’ve given us the run-down of your visa options so that you can move to Portugal even in the case of a no deal. All it would take is a little more paperwork – more than worth it for a new life in the sun.

Portugal tops property-buying charts
We don’t seem to go a week without a new award, but that’s what happens when you have a sunny climate, affordable property and great transport links! Today, it’s the turn of America, as Portugal is named #1 destination for US citizens to retire to. The study, says Portugal News, highlighted the regular flights to the UK, the low cost of homes and, of course, the fantastic lifestyle we enjoy here.
No wonder, then, that we’re the most popular property investment location for Americans. However, it doesn’t stop there – we’re also the preferred place to buy in Europe for the French and the Italians.
Could you own your own five-star hotel?
How would you spend your money if you came up on the Euromillions? A swish five-star hotel near Albufeira has come up for sale on our portal, and it certainly makes for some reading! The Moorish-style architecture adds an extravagant touch, with large swimming pools, its own spa, numerous restaurants, gardens and 93 units set amid luxurious gardens.
Meanwhile, a €10 million development, called Quinta do Algarvio, has opened in Carvoeiro, with a drinks reception for local and international media. Built in a modern, minimalist style, the 22 townhouses and 10 apartments enjoy luxury touches like underfloor heating and all have access to the beautiful communal gardens and swimming pools.
