In April 2024 Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez announced that the golden visa would be axed. At the end of the year, the proposal was passed by Spain’s Congress of Deputies, and on 3rd January, 2025, Spain’s Official State Gazette (BOE) published Organic Law 1/2025, confirming the termination of the program. Non-EU nationals seeking residency in Spain through the golden visa program have until 3rd April, 2025 to submit their application.
